M.Ed, or Master of Education, is a master’s degree programme that focuses on novel teaching approaches and educational research. Instruction, curriculum, counselling, leadership, and educational technology are some of the topics covered in the programme. The National Council of Higher Education is the governing organization in charge of the M.Ed programme (NCHE).

M.Ed is of two years duration divided into four semesters. Some universities/colleges, on the other hand, offer a one-year M.Ed programme. The programme is available in a variety of areas and specializations. M.Ed programmes are available in both distance and conventional education formats. Candidates who complete the M.Ed programme can work as counsellors, administrators, headmasters, and other positions after graduation.Candidates should clear B.Ed with the minimum required percentage (usually 50% – 60%) stipulated by the institution in which a candidate is applying. Candidates with a postgraduate degree in Sciences/Social Sciences/Humanities, teaching experience, and experience working in State Boards of Secondary and Senior Secondary Education or Directorates/Inspectors of Education in the states may be given additional weightage.

MEd admissions and selection standards differ from one university to the next. While some universities/colleges admit students based on their performance in the qualifying test (B.Ed/ B.El.Ed/ BA.Ed/ BSc.Ed/ MSc.Ed), others require candidates to take written entrance examinations. Candidates are typically assessed on three factors during the M.Ed admission exam: teaching aptitude, reasoning ability, and language proficiency. Students with a Master of Education degree have several employment options in the sectors of teaching and education. Education consultancies, publishing firms, schools, colleges, coaching centres, research and development organizations, and other locations are all good places for a postgraduate in M.Ed to work.

A master’s degree in education is a great method to broaden and enhance one’s teaching career. It elevates students to the status of expert teachers and expands career prospects. The M.Ed programme teaches students the fundamentals of educational research, as well as the social and psychological foundations of teaching. This course is more of a research-based course.
